‘Insidious’: Online gamblers threaten reporter over Iran war bets

Until he began to receive threatening messages, Fabian didn’t know his brief report had triggered a dispute over bets on the prediction market.

Emanuel Fabian, a 28-year-old war correspondent at the Times of Israel newspaper, published a short blog post reporting that an Iranian missile had struck an open area outside a Jerusalem suburb that didn't hurt anyone.

Until he began to receive threatening messages, Fabian didn’t know his brief report had triggered a dispute over bets on the prediction market Polymarket on whether an Iranian missile would strike Israel on March 10. For those with money down, millions of dollars were potentially riding on his blog post

Kegseth Spent Billions On Lobster Tails, Recliners And Other Luxuries

While the Trump admin. cut essential food and health care for the rest of us...

A shocking new analysis from government watchdog Open the Books found Hegseth’s department went on a $93 billion spending spree last year. That’s more money than it spent in any other year since 2008, The New Republic noted, but a lot of that money was spent on non-military items that most of us can only dream of affording.

Apparently, Whiskey Pete thinks it’s OK to spend $6.9 million on lobster tails, $2 million for Alaskan king crab, and $15.1 million for ribeye steak, just in September. Open the Books pointed out that “Fortune magazine recently declared that king crab has taken caviar’s place as the ‘hottest luxury ingredient.’”

Other eye-popping expenses having nothing to do with keeping us safer include a $98,329 Steinway & Sons grand piano for the Air Force chief of staff’s home, a $26,000 violin, and a $21,750 custom handmade flute from the luxury Japanese brand Muramatsu.

We, the taxpayers, also coughed up $12,000 for fruit basket stands, and more than $60,000 for Herman Miller recliners. “All in all, the agency spent more on furniture in 2025 than it had in over a decade,” The New Republic said.

Map shows how big Iran is compared with the 50 US states

Iran is roughly the same size as Alaska, 2.5 times the size of Texas and covers about one-sixth of the US land area.

How big is Iran?

Iran is the 17th largest country in the world by area, just behind Sudan and Libya. It covers about 1.65 million square kilometres (636,000sq miles).

To put that into context, Iran is about one-sixth the size of the United States, about one-fifth the size of Australia, roughly half the size of India, about four times larger than Iraq and about 80 times larger than Israel.

Iran is located in Western Asia and shares a land border with seven countries, the longest being with Iraq, followed by Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkiye and Armenia.

Tennessee Republicans propose bill that would allow the death penalty for women who have an abortion

House Bill 570 allows for death penalty to be imposed on women who have abortions, as well as charging women ‘involved in the homicide of her own unborn child’

Republicans in Tennessee have proposed a bill that would allow women who have had an abortion to be sentenced to death.

House Bill 570 allows for the death penalty to be imposed on women who have abortions, as well as charging women “involved in the homicide of her own unborn child” with homicide.

It was co-sponsored by state Rep. Jody Barrett and Senator Mark Pody, who sponsored the bill, though it is not yet on the calendar for consideration, according to The Tennessean.

The legislation would allow prosecutors to charge women who obtain abortions with fetal homicide. This crime is punishable by life imprisonment, life without parole, and in some cases, the death penalty.

Gaza's future or Trump's favour: what is the Board of Peace trying to secure?

A group of largely authoritarian world leaders and a few observers joined Donald Trump in Washington for the inaugural meeting of the newly established Board of Peace. Guardian Europe reporter Jakub Krupa looks at who attended the organisation's first meeting and what it means for the future world order. The body was created to implement the US president's vision for Gaza’s future after the territory was destroyed by Israel, but Trump has widened its scope, calling it 'the most consequential international body in history'

Donald Trump has two agendas here. One is turn the Gaza Strip into a high end resort for the ultra wealthy. Further enriching himself and his family.
The other is his pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize which he'll never win.
