Honduras elects new president – and Donald Trump overshadows the vote

Three front-runners could take the top job. Trump has threatened to cut off aid aid to Honduras unless the winner is the right-wing businessman Nasry Asfura. Voters say their top priorities are jobs and security. The small nation has the highest homicide rate in Central America.
That demand is straight up blackmail.

How does the EU's plan compare to Trump's peace plan for Ukraine? | DW News

Both the US and Ukraine have confirmed that they have agreed to collaborate on an 'updated and refined' version of the peace plan originally negotiated by the US and Russia. After talks in Geneva on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more work was still needed. Meanwhile, European leaders have rallied behind Ukraine, seeking a better deal for Kyiv by creating their own peace plan.

RI judge intervenes after ICE wrongfully detains Superior Court intern

The ICE-holes threatened to smash the judge's car windows.
A dramatic scene unfolded in Rhode Island when a high school intern at the Supreme Court was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents before a judge intervened, according to the state’s Judicial office. Ultimately, the ICE agents were eventually forced to admit that the intern was not their intended target.

WPRI reports:

Superior Court Judge Joseph McBurney insisted the agents had the wrong person. It was not until ICE verified their information and admitted the intern was not their intended target that he was released.

Multiple sources told Target 12 that Rhode Island sheriffs earlier noticed someone taking photos of the intern inside the courthouse and in Superior Court Judge McBurney’s courtroom. When approached, the individual identified himself as an ICE agent and was told to abide by standard courthouse rules, and to stop taking pictures.

Inside ICE Detention: Stripped, Shackled, Starved

We heard it over and over on the campaign trail: Donald Trump’s promise of a crackdown on criminals and undocumented immigrants at a scale and breadth this country had never seen before. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, has swept into American cities and is detaining more people than ever before. However, 71 percent of those held in immigrant detention by the end of September did not have criminal convictions, according to the Migration Policy Institute, a think tank focused on immigration. Many law-abiding immigrants who followed the rules in their applications for visas, green cards or asylum are being taken into ICE detention centers.

U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols

The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika — an emblem of fascism and white supremacy inextricably linked to the murder of millions of Jews and the deaths of more than 400,000 U.S. troops who died fighting in World War II — as a hate symbol, according to a new policy that takes effect next month.

Instead, the Coast Guard will classify the Nazi-era insignia as “potentially divisive” under its new guidelines. The policy, set to take effect Dec. 15, similarly downgrades the definition of nooses and the Confederate flag, though display of the latter remains banned, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

The German Strafgesetzbuch (StGB; English: Criminal Code) in section § 86a outlaws use of symbols of "unconstitutional organizations" and terrorism outside the contexts of "art or science, research or teaching". The law does not name the individual symbols to be outlawed, and there is no official exhaustive list. However, the law has primarily been used to suppress fascistNazicommunistextremist and Russian militarist symbols. The law, adopted during the Cold War, most notably affected the Communist Party of Germany, which was banned as unconstitutional in 1956; the Socialist Reich Party, which was banned in 1952; and several small far-right parties.

A noose. It’s simply the loop at the end of a rope, under a running knot, which tightens as it’s pulled. And yet it has the power to spur shivers of terror.

In America, the hangman’s noose has come to symbolize a deplorable act of brutality, along with unbound fear and hatred towards African Americans. It’s a reminder of America’s dark history of racial violence – a history that NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace and others will tell you in 2020 doesn’t feel very distant at all.

Trump threatens Seattle’s World Cup, calls Mayor-elect Wilson ‘communist’

President Donald Trump has again dangled the prospect of moving the World Cup out of Seattle next year while calling Mayor-elect Katie Wilson “another beauty” and a “very, very liberal-slash-communist mayor.”

Prompted by an Oval Office reporter, who asked Monday about Wilson’s election, Trump made what appears to be his first acknowledgment of Seattle’s incoming mayor.

With FIFA President Gianni Infantino by his side, he said of Seattle hosting the games, “If we think there’s going to be the sign of any trouble, I would ask Gianni to move that to a different city. We have a lot of cities who would love to have it number one, and will do it very safely.”

To be clear the barking yam has no control over where any World Cup match is held. FIFA decided that several years ago and signed contracts with the host cities. If the screaming orange clown tried to move the matches from Seattle there would be a lawsuit which the administration would surely loose as once again the contract is with the city of Seattle and not the U.S. government.

'Gen Z' protesters confront police at National Palace in Mexico City

Clashes erupt between protesters and riot police in the capital as rallies take place in cities across the country

At least 120 people were injured as thousands of gen Z protesters took to the streets of Mexico City and across the country to voice their anger at corruption and the drug violence that claims tens of thousands of Mexican lives each year.

Saturday’s rallies, which took place in dozens of cities from Tijuana in the north to Oaxaca in the south drew large crowds, with some demonstrators carrying the One Piece pirate flag that has become a global symbol of the youth movement.

“We need more security,” said Andres Massa, 29, a business consultant who was among those carrying the flag.

New report exposes massive corruption in Kristi Noem's Department of Homeland Security

Noem has hailed the more than $200 million, taxpayer-funded ad campaign as a crucial tool to stem illegal immigration. Her agency invoked the “national emergency” at the border as it awarded contracts for the campaign, bypassing the normal competitive bidding process designed to prevent waste and corruption.

The Department of Homeland Security has kept at least one beneficiary of the nine-figure ad deal a secret, records and interviews show: a Republican consulting firm with long-standing personal and business ties to Noem and her senior aides at DHS. The company running the Mount Rushmore shoot, called the Strategy Group, does not appear on public documents about the contract. The main recipient listed on the contracts is a mysterious Delaware company, which was created days before the deal was finalized.

What Really Happened in Portland Before Trump Deployed the National Guard

When President Donald Trump told reporters on Sept. 5 he’d started looking at sending the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, he said it was because of something he saw on television.

The evening before, on Sept. 4, Fox News aired a two-and-a-half-minute segment spotlighting protests outside a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Portland. Similar footage aired the morning of Trump’s remarks. The president went on to announce Sept. 27 on Truth Social that he would send troops, saying that he was “authorizing Full Force, if necessary.”

As The Guardian and The Oregonian/OregonLive have reported, Fox News on Sept. 4 used footage from the 2020 protests after the police killing of George Floyd and said it was from 2025. We found two clear cases from that night as well as one that seemed to match a scene filmed at a key site of the 2020 protests. Fox also mislabeled two other dates of actions shown on screen, and

The Genius That Isn't Kristi Noem

DHS head reportedly authorized purchase of 10 engineless Spirit Airlines planes that airline didn’t own

Sheer stupidity of this is just off the scale.

Wall Street Journal reports Kristi Noem arranged purchase to expand deportation flights and for personal travel

It's always about the grift. For the 'goat killer' government service means enriching yourself and screwing the American people.

The secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, reportedly authorized the purchase of Spirit Airlines jets before discovering the airline didn’t actually own the planes – and that the aircraft lacked engines.

The bizarre anecdote was contained in a Wall Street Journal report released on Friday, which recounted how Noem and Corey Lewandowski – who managed Donald Trump’s first winning presidential campaign – had recently arranged to buy 10 Boeing 737 aircraft from Spirit Airlines. People familiar with the situation told the paper that the two intended to use the jets to expand deportation flights – and for personal travel.

Faith, power & politics: The rise of Christian nationalism

Christian nationalists are rising—and their vision could redefine the nation 250 years after its founding. What happens to democracy when faith takes the driver’s seat? DW’s Ines Pohl speaks with Dr. Paul D. Miller of Georgetown University about the weaponization of religion, the MAGA movement’s influence, and the global network of Christian nationalism.

The goal of Christian nationalism is to create a theocratic state based on the teachings of the bible. Donald Trump is no Christian. He's using them for his own purposes.

“Fifa Peace Prize – Football Unites the World”.

Fifa one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet has created its own peace prize. Like Sepp Blatter (Who thought he could bring peace to the Middle East.) Gianni Infantino sees himself as  Gandhi, The Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela all rolled into one corrupt peacemaker package.

Staging World Cup's in Russia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia just screams peace, love and human rights. Given all that, who would you place as the odds on favourite to win this "prestigious" prize? If it's not the orange man you're not paying attention.

Gianni Infantino is a Trump sycophant and his best friend until Trump decides Infantino was just the coffee boy and he's never met him. Until then BFF's.

When María Corina Machado won this year’s Nobel peace prize for her “tireless work promoting democratic rights”, Donald Trump took the news as Maga-nanimously as you might expect. Having tirelessly run a campaign of self-promotion to ensure he won it himself, the president of the USA USA USA immediately claimed the credit for the Venezuelan opposition leader’s triumph, listed his own self-proclaimed and often dubious achievements in the field of global peacemaking and attacked the credibility of the committee who made the decision not to award the medal, cash prize and diploma to him. While security concerns mean it remains to be seen if the newly crowned Nobel laureate will emerge from hiding to pick up her accolade in person at the Oslo ceremony in December, a certain obsequious Fifa president appears hell-bent on stealing her thunder anyway. Yup, Gianni Infantino has decided to award a peace prize of his own creation in front of a global TV audience of hundreds of millions of international football fans the previous week in Washington.

Media, Money & Zohran Mamdani

In this special episode of The Listening Post, we examine the rise of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. A democratic socialist and outspoken critic of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Mamdani has faced a barrage of hostility from US mainstream media, the political donor class and the democratic establishment alike. The press has been particularly relentless, questioning not only Mamdani’s progressive policies but also his identity as a Muslim and an immigrant.

But Mamdani is a digital native with an international following and a double-digit lead in the polls. His victory would reverberate far beyond New York City, shaking up the Democratic Party nationwide.

Evanston leaders condemn ICE agents' aggressive actions

The state’s governor had called for a pause in the federal immigration crackdown over the Halloween weekend, citing concerns for children’s safety.

Federal immigration agents fanned out across Chicago and its North Shore suburbs on Halloween, chasing suspects through front yards, driving S.U.V.s onto sidewalks and using chemical agents during confrontations with furious residents.

Several people, including at least one woman who said that she was a U.S. citizen, were arrested after appearing to interfere with immigration operations. In Evanston, a suburb north of Chicago, Border Patrol agents detained at least one additional person after a car rear-ended the agents’ vehicle on Friday, according to the Evanston police.

Evanston police officers responded to the scene as dozens of people shouted and jeered at the agents while demanding that the people detained be released.
