Federal prosecutors in New York have obtained an indictment against Mayor Eric Adams, a person familiar with the investigation said late Wednesday, while a second person also speaking on the condition of anonymity said they’d been told by the mayor’s team that an indictment against him could be unsealed as soon as Thursday.
The indictment obtained in Manhattan federal court was not public, and the nature of the charges was not immediately known.
Adams made a videotaped statement Wednesday night addressing possible charges against him.
“It is now my belief that the federal government intends to charge me with federal crimes,” Adams said. “If so, these charges will be entirely false, based on lies.”
