'We don't need new laws,' Nvidia boss says as he calls for self-regulation on AI

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang says there's no need for new laws on AI - instead AI companies should "simply not release anything that they are not confident will be safe"

He's one of several AI bosses speaking at a conference in California. Anthropic's boss says it is tempting to "attack" competitors but it is more responsible to try and establish industry-wide standards

Self regulation is the industry's method of stopping the government from imposing its own regulatory scheme.  Until the creation of the EPA polluters in the United States were rarely held accountable for any wrongdoing. America's automobile industry fought for years to stop the government from making seat belts mandatory just as they've fought against most safety improvements. They aren't the only industry that does this. Railroads, tobacco companies, the trucking industry and the chemical industry.  Your safety isn't their concern. Profits are.
